Bank Account Fraud Prevention

Posted in Good Advice, Good Practices, Our Blog, Uncategorized

Bank of Ireland advise customers to examine the content of text messages and watch out for these common tactics used by fraudsters:

1 – Unnecessary and overuse of capital letters to demand your attention e.g. BOI ALERT.

2 – Requests to “Take immediate action” or “Urgent action needed” or that you have a short window of time to act.

3 – Use of fake URL’s (the links in the text messages), fraud texts typically use variations of the ‘365’, ‘365Online’ or ‘BOI’ brand in the fake URL.

4 – Mention of amounts of money that are close to the average monthly salary making you think you could lose your monthly wage.

5 – Claims from authority institutions or known service providers to get you to trust the message and respond.

And remember, Bank of Ireland will never send you texts or e-mails asking for your full 365 PIN or one-time passcode. Nor will other banks.
